About
Initially, the SACCO started as Union Banking Section (UBS) of Kirinyaga District Co-Op Union (KDCU). The section was formed in the year 1972. It was regarded as the only section which offered financial services to Kirinyaga District Farmers who were mainly coffee and Tea growers.
KDCU had other sections like, Land section, Farm Store Section, Banking section and Housing section. Among the sections, UBS would make more profit comparing to other sections. The profit made by banking section was used to boost other sections hence making it difficult for the section to perform optimally, this provoked rebellion and desire for autonomy.
In the year, 1998, Kirinyaga District Farmers SACCO Society (KDFSS) was born. The autonomous institution continued to serve the larger Union members. KDFSS inherited approximately 1,000 members from UBS.
KDFSS eventually rebranded to Fortune SACCO in the year 2008.The membership has tremendously grown to 105,000 members.
